After the teacher, textbooks are the most important factor in learning. Textbook is an essential element of teaching and learning materials. Overall, the three textbooks foregrounded lower-order thinking skills over higher-order thinking skills such as analysis, inventive thinking (synthesis), and evaluation. By contrast, all the three textbooks did not foster or develop critical language awareness. Second, all the three textbooks incorporated elements of other school subjects in their language contents in line with CALP. It was followed by understanding as the second lower-order cognitive skill. First, of the six cognitive dimensions of a modified version of Bloom’s taxonomy that are graded in degrees of cognitive complexity (e.g., from lower-order thinking skills to higher-order thinking skills), knowledge, as the first lower-order cognitive skill, was the most foregrounded in all the three textbooks. Two of the findings of this study are worth mentioning. The three evaluated areas were: thinking skills integration of various school subjects and critical language awareness. It utilised a modified version of Bloom’s (1956) taxonomy of cognitive dimensions and Cummins’ (1999) CALP, respectively, to evaluate the language contents of the three EFA textbooks: Book 1, Book 2, and Book 3. It adopted a critical literacy framing and employed purposive sampling to select five junior high schools in the Ho West District. The results of the study revealed that the Grade 5 coursebook of Let’s Learn English needs modifications, while the presentation of Grade 3 and 4 coursebooks requires slight modifications.This study set out to evaluate three English as an additional language (EAL) textbooks used by junior high schools in the Ho West District of Ghana. The ultimate objective of the study is to identify strengths and weaknesses of the coursebooks and recommend improvements to them, with the aim of enhancing the quality of learning and teaching practices. Also, the integration of all four language skills was analyzed to examine whether the communicative needs of students are met.

Additionally, attempts are made to inspect how far the coursebooks are free from mistakes and errors. Drawing on comprehensive qualitative and quantitative data through questionnaires and interviews from a study sample of ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers, instructors and students, this study seeks to investigate the extent to which the contents of the books meet the set objectives.

Therefore, critical evaluation of this series could be considered vital to discover whether the students’ language requirements are satisfactorily fulfilled. Let’s Learn English is a series designed for primary grades 3, 4, and 5, and lays the foundation for children’s formal English language learning process. It is highly significant to mention that the study assesses the effectiveness of the textbook, " Visa to the World ", on the basis of seven main criteria: the physical appearance and format of the textbook, the accompanying materials, the content and the topics, the exercises and the activities, cultural presentation, the four skills and the language methods that the textbook adopts.Īt present, recognizing the importance of English, as the gateway to modern knowledge, English is taught from the primary grades onwards, within the Sri Lankan education system. This means that the researchers intend to highlight teachers' attitudes towards the textbook through which students obtain the linguistic knowledge needed so as to communicate in English with native and non-native speakers. It also aims to assess the effectiveness of this textbook which was suggested by the Moroccan Ministry of National Education as an instructional material for middle school students. Since textbook evaluation is an interesting area in the field of applied linguistics, the present study intends to investigate Moroccan teachers' perspectives concerning the EFL textbook " Visa to the World " designed for common core high school students in Morocco.
